A Passion for Inclusion: The Story Behind SEND Vision

Welcome to our very first blog post! We’re excited to introduce you to SEND Vision, a service dedicated to supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), their families, schools, and other professionals. Our mission is simple: to ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive, both in and out of the classroom.

In this post, we’ll share who we are, what we do, and why we do it.

The Who

I’m Rachel, the founder of SEND Vision. With over a decade of hands-on experience working with children with a wide range of needs, I’ve dedicated my career to making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

My passion for working in this field stems from my personal experiences growing up with my older brother, who has cerebral palsy. From a young age, I witnessed firsthand the challenges that come with having a disability and the importance of the right support—whether in education, at home, or within the wider community. This personal connection has fuelled my determination to support children with disabilities and their families, ensuring that they don’t just survive, but thrive.

I’ve had the privilege of working as a primary school teacher in England, leading an ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) base, and serving as a SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator) and class teacher in a mainstream primary school. I’ve also worked with the Children with Disabilities Team within social care, where I gained a deep understanding of how education, health, and social care must work together to deliver the right support at the right time.

This combination of professional expertise and personal experience has given me a unique perspective on the complexities of SEND and a commitment to creating better outcomes for children and families.

The What

At SEND Vision, we provide comprehensive consultancy services designed to support:

  • Parents and Families: We guide families through the often overwhelming world of SEND, offering advice, advocacy, and hands-on support. This includes help with navigating the Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) process, understanding your child’s rights, and ensuring they receive the support they’re entitled to.
  • Schools and SENDCos: Whether you’re a new SENDCo needing guidance, or an experienced professional facing complex cases, we offer tailored consultancy services to help you develop effective strategies, improve SEND provision, and manage workloads more efficiently.
  • Teacher and Staff Training: We believe that the right training can transform a classroom. We offer practical, evidence-based training for teachers and school staff to build confidence and competence in supporting children with diverse needs.
  • EHCP Support: Applying for an EHCP can be daunting. We’re here to support both parents and schools through the process, from initial requests to reviews and appeals, ensuring that every application is thorough, evidence-based, and focused on the child’s unique needs.

The Why

The reason behind SEND Vision is simple: every child deserves the right support, at the right time, to achieve their full potential.

Growing up with my brother, I saw how vital it is for children with disabilities to have access to the right support early on. It shaped my belief that the right intervention at the right time can make all the difference. SEND Vision was born from the desire to make that support more accessible, effective, and compassionate, particularly for families who need it most.

Throughout my career, I’ve seen the profound difference early and appropriate support can make—not just for the child, but for their family, their teachers, and their peers. I’ve also seen the gaps in the system: the overwhelmed parents trying to navigate complex processes, the SENDCos stretched thin with increasing responsibilities, and the teachers who want to help but don’t always have the training or resources they need.

SEND Vision was born from the belief that it doesn’t have to be this way. By bridging the gap between families, schools, and services, we aim to create a support network that’s proactive, informed, and child-centred.
